Ernie McAllister is running for re-election tomorrow against a strong opponent, Harold 
Weinbrecht (a personal tennis friend of my husband's). The two faced off in a heated debate on the local Cary TV News last week and I wish I could summarize the point-counter points for you but I failed to take notes.
On the one side you have Ernie that supports a managed growth policy. On the other hand (pictured on your left) you have Harold that says that growth is out of control.
As most of you know I often write about the tremendous growth that has taken place in Cary since I moved here in 1994. The Town of Cary looks like a completely different town than when I moved here. Cary experienced a boom in the late 80's and early 90's with little infrastructure in place. In comes Glen Lang to save the day and Cary's growth comes to a halt. With the halt of the growth comes a halt in the increased tax base. Lang endured ethics problems when it was discovered his firm was doing business in the Town of Cary with certain property developers who had pending business before the Town Council. Harold happened to be on the same council with Glen Lang. Further, when Harold ran for re-election to the Council he lost his re-election. Probably because he had close ties to Glen. I don't want to get into it here I'll just say this.
There are a number of reasons that I can point to that demonstrate that Ernie is the man for the next election:
- Improved roads
- Fantastic planned(controlled) commercial developments
- Continued emphasis on a quality education
- Planned expansion of the water treatment facility
We have to remember that Harold was on the City Council when numberous projects were planned(prior to Ernie taking office) that have contributed to the overall Cary debt. Harold's plans will raise Cary taxes!! Vote for Ernie tomorrow.
On a final note, MSNBC has gotten in the action by posting an article on how controversial this race has become. I will anxiously be awaiting the results. They will be aired on Cary TV Channel 11 starting at 7:30pm on October 9, 2007.

It looks like the very well organized Weinbrecht camp has won the election. Now we need to pull together as a community and put this election behind us for the betterment of the entire community.

Wow!! I'd have to agree with you. That shows what a huge metamorphisis has taken place in local politics. Harold got free advertising from his "Youtube supporters", blogs, and the media. On the other hand, Ernie paid big $$$s for his advertising not recognizining that, in a high tech community like Cary, there are many citizens that use the internet as a tool to disseminate facts/fiction, etc.
Ernie lost because he didn't listen to the people who live in Cary. He took care of the developers and real estate companies. Cary citizens do not want Cary to look like Raleigh. We moved to Cary, because it was different.
Ernie supporters need to realize, his vision of growth is not what the citizens of Cary want!
Harold won the election because he had enough supporters to hit the streets spreading the word. If you are unhappy with the way Cary is growing, vote for someone else.
Those high tech Cary "resisdents" of Cary are different!
Money can't buy unhappy citizens.

I'm one of those "high tech" citizens and also supported Ernie. While he did not win, I will look forward to supporting the new mayor of Cary.
